Kids cartoons colonizing your recommendations, a partner's true crime marathon polluting your suggestions: shared Netflix without profiles is chaos.
Updated August 09, 2026, after a fresh review, with updated visuals and links.
Profiles take five minutes, and a couple of hidden settings make each one behave. Here's the complete setup including the parental side.

Where people go wrong
- One profile for the whole extended family isn't a setup, it's a content blender: five minutes now saves twenty arguments.
- Forgetting the PIN you set: the account email can always reset profile locks from the web account page, keep access to that email current.
The steps, start to finish
- Create a profile per human. Manage Profiles from the profile picker screen (or account page on web): add up to five, name them, pick icons. Adults, kids, and a guest profile for visitors if you're generous.
- Kids profiles: two layers of guardrails. Toggle the Kids experience for the little ones (curated surface only), then in Account settings set maturity ratings per profile, from Little Kids up to Adults. Title level blocks exist too for specific shows you veto by name.
- Maturity settings apply by profile, not by device
- Kids profiles can also hide trailers autoplay in their settings
- Lock adult profiles with a PIN. Account, your profile, Profile lock: require a PIN to enter. Kids can't wander into your Breaking Bad queue, and your recommendations stop absorbing the strange things nephews watch at your house.
- Retrain polluted recommendations. Viewing activity (Account page) per profile lets you hide anything: remove the duds others watched on your profile and ratings reset. Thumbs up/down after finishing things teaches faster than passive watching.
- Understand the household rule. Netflix ties accounts to a household network now: profiles for people in your home travel fine, extra members outside cost extra. Keep the household set correctly (TV used most at home) to avoid drama with your own devices.

Small tweaks, big difference
- Rename your profile with your actual name: shared accounts with 'User 2' profiles guarantee contamination apologizing later.
- Autoplay next episode is per profile: turn it off at Account, Playback settings when you want sleep to be an option again.
- Download heavies belong to each adult profile: your phone downloads migrate with the profile, not with the account.
FAQ
Can I transfer my profile to a new account?
Yes: profile transfer (on the web, under profiles) moves recommendations, history and lists to a brand new subscription, built precisely for moving out of shared houses.
How many can watch at once?
Depends on the plan: 1, 2 or 4 simultaneous streams. Profiles exist for curation; the plan limits simultaneous eyes.
